Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Onsite

Location: La Vista, NE

*This role is based in La Vista, NE. Candidates not currently based within a commuting distance of the La Vista office must be willing to relocate.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The next CEO will be expected to align with the strategic direction set by the board and build on existing strengths while helping the organization navigate current challenges, sustain momentum, and position itself for future success. This leader must be able to assess the health information technology (HIT) landscape quickly, establish credibility with the board and key healthcare and government stakeholders, and provide clear, steady leadership through this transitionary period.

CEO OPPORTUNITY AND KEY PRIORITIES

The CEO opportunity centers on providing strategic, operational, and cultural leadership at a pivotal point for CyncHealth. The next CEO will be expected to translate CyncHealth’s mission and execute the three pillars outlined below through disciplined execution and measurable outcomes.

CyncHealth’s strategic priorities are as outlined below.

Pillar One: CyncHealth is committed to maintaining financial sustainability over the next 18 months by reducing DHHS contribution, balancing participant fees, managing R&D funds, and increasing value add service.

Pillar Two: CyncHealth is committed to reducing entity footprint to create a leaner and more accountable operating model which supports modernization and operationalization of goals with budget stability. With organizational health in mind, CyncHealth will leverage KPIs and metrics to assess utilization, performance, and value for technology investments and key services, use Voice of the Customer methods and Advisory Committees to ensure approaches align to broad stakeholder base, and translate measures into clear Return on Investment and Value Proposition outputs.

Pillar Three: CyncHealth is committed to modernization and innovation by instituting a structured go-to-market strategy, improving interoperability and data utility, increasing platform scalability and reliability, reducing technical debt and operational costs, finalizing AI governance strategy and screening potential vendor partners, and enabling analytics & population health insights.

ROLE SCOPE AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The CEO will serve as managing director of corporate operations and provide executive leadership, guidance, and overall organizational direction to CyncHealth. This position will work strategically with the Board of Directors to enhance the mission and growth of CyncHealth.

Detailed responsibilities for the CEO include:

  • Setting strategic direction and providing operational oversight in conjunction with the Executive Team for all functional business areas including short and long-term strategic planning, projects and programs, funding and budgeting, staffing, and advocacy.
  • Representing the organization locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Partnering with all stakeholders to create and implement a strategic planning model and ensuring accountability for all deliverables.
  • Overseeing board governance and ensuring all relevant boards are kept updated on enterprise events, trends, and forecasting.
  • In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for the fiscal integrity of CyncHealth to include submission to the Board a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • In partnership with the legal and government affairs teams, responsible for the development and execution of legislative policy to further promote the mission of CyncHealth.
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with key government officials, policymakers, and other legislative stakeholders including the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Nebraska Hospital Association, Nebraska Pharmacy Association, and more.
  • Serving as a leader in governance and advocacy within the industry.
  • Identifying and pursuing business opportunities in alignment with the CyncHealth mission and vision.
  • Diversifying funding to ensure the sustainability of CyncHealth.
  • Maintaining active professional contacts through local, state, and national associations to effectively network as required. Building professional affiliations to enhance professional growth and remaining current with the latest trends in association, hospital, payer, and health care management and the expansion of risk-based payment models.
  • Providing direction and directives to direct reports. Providing regular and ongoing feedback, including conducting performance conversations with direct reports.
  • Participating in state and federal agency-level meetings as needed. Local and overnight travel as needed.
  • Informing and guiding CyncHealth social media, donor, member, and communication strategies as it relates to CyncHealth.
  • Maintaining regulatory knowledge as applicable to the work of CyncHealth. In particular, understanding obligations under HIPAA, data breach notifications, Federal Acquisition Regulations, OMB Uniform Guidance, and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Cultivating an environment where team members build understanding, modeling respect, and adhering to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices. Following corporate performance management program and supporting an open-door-policy.
  • Supporting and working directly with senior leaders on various initiatives across stakeholder groups to ensure sustainable integration with CyncHealth’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensuring the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Protecting assets and the integrity, security and privacy of information entrusted or maintained by the organization.
  • Modeling CyncHealth’s values and Code of Conduct. Managing resources and business objectives in compliance with charter, policies, and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will bring significant leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations and deliver results in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have experience leading through transformation, operational complexity, and other significant periods of change in an HIE, HIT, or clinical setting.

Formal Educational Background

The next CEO must have a master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field.

Executive Leadership Experience

The candidate must possess a minimum of seven years of progressive senior leadership experience in a healthcare setting. They must have demonstrated ability to think strategically while providing tactical support as well as experience planning and leading strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of health data workflows and also have experience with healthcare data analysis, budget management, and project coordination.

Relevant Industry or Sector Background

Experience within the health information exchange industry is strongly preferred with an ideal candidate having established relationships in the health information exchange industry.

The ideal candidate will understand HIE funding models; experience developing and managing to Advance Planning Documents (APDs) as well as pulling down federal match dollars is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will understand industry-specific data governance best practices including health technology and workflows.

The ideal candidate will have established relationships with Nebraska DHHS or the demonstrated ability to quickly build and maintain those relationships. They should also be able to effectively engage with key industry associations, including the Nebraska Hospital Association and the Nebraska Pharmacy Association.

Track Record of Results

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a consistent track record of delivering results in complex and evolving environments. This includes leading organizations or functions through periods of transition, transformation, or operational challenge, while achieving measurable outcomes.

Board-Facing and Stakeholder Management Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with boards and navigating complex stakeholder environments. This includes the ability to build trust, communicate effectively, and maintain strong relationships across diverse groups, including public, private, and industry partners. Experience aligning stakeholder interests while advancing organizational priorities is also a must.

Leadership Capabilities and Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of strategic capability, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal effectiveness. This includes the ability to think strategically, communicate clearly, and influence across a range of stakeholders and organizational levels.

The successful candidate will demonstrate adaptability, resilience, and the ability to navigate complex and evolving environments while maintaining focus and composure. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills will be essential along with the ability to prioritize effectively, delegate appropriately, and drive accountability.

Equally important are personal attributes such as integrity, discretion, and attention to detail. The candidate must be able to operate independently, maintain a high degree of confidentiality, and lead with credibility and trust. The role requires a leader who combines decisiveness with thoughtful judgment and a strong commitment to organizational values.

Compensation and Application Process

Compensation for the CEO role will be competitive and aligned with the scope, complexity, and responsibilities for the position, as well as relevant market benchmarks.

The role will be based in La Vista, NE, with a hybrid work arrangement. Candidates not currently based within a commuting distance of the La Vista office must be willing to relocate. Occasional overnight travel will be required to attend conferences, industry meetings, and other stakeholder engagements.
